About Us

The Visualization and Design Augmentation Research Lab studies visualization design artifacts (i.e., the charts, diagrams, and visual representations that communicate data) as the central objects of our research. We investigate how designers produce them, how existing artifacts inspire new designs, how machines can learn from and generate them, and how people interpret them. Across these four directions, our work builds toward a unified understanding of how design knowledge lives inside visualizations and flows through the design process.
